Our Vision

The aim of the Galway Medical Technologies Centre – GMedTech is to develop a critical mass of research capacity in the area of medical device test and design to serve the needs of medical device companies and medical practitioner communities. The vision of the GMedTech Centre is to create very strong relationships with the medical device companies in the west of Ireland, serving their test and design needs and serving them through the supply of appropriately trained biomedical engineers and technicians, and through the continuing education of technical staff in the companies.

The Galway Medical Technologies Centre and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department of GMIT has a successful history of co-operative research and technical support activity with medical device companies, other third level colleges and with the clinical community. This activity has taken many forms, including pre- and post-graduate projects leading to primary, masters and PhD level degrees.
