About Us |
Over the last 10 years, the academic staff of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department within Galway Mayo Institute of Technology have been active in biomedical engineering research. This ultimately led to the establishment of the Galway Medical Technologies Centre – GMedTech. The GMedTech Centre was established in 2006 through the Enterprise Ireland Applied Research Enhancement (ARE) Programme. The aim of the GMedTech Centre is to develop a critical mass of research capacity in the area of medical device test and design to serve the needs of medical device companies and medical practitioner communities. The first service being offered by the GMedTech is to develop in vitro simulation test systems that closely mimic human anatomical systems. These systems will allow medical devices, under development, to be tested in a realistic fashion without having to resort to human or animal testing. GMedTech is also offering a broad range of engineering design/development support services to the developers of medical devices. |
